It is a woody, aromatic shrub with small blue or lilac flowers and leaves that give off a pleasant aroma of camphor. It grows in dry regions of southern Europe, especially in the Mediterranean area. Thanks to its medicinal properties it is one of the best-known aromatic species.

There are more than 20 antioxidant compounds in rosemary. Ursolic acid, the main component, is responsible for its anti-microbial and anti-fungal action. Rosmarinic acid regulates sebaceous secretion and is therefore recommended for oily scalps.
